The Ignition Interlock Program Alberta

The Alberta Ignition Interlock Program is part of SafeRoads Alberta enforcement, a breathalyzer is installed in the driver’s vehicle.

Before you can start the engine and operate the vehicle, you must provide a breath sample. If any alcohol is detected on your breath, you will be unable to start the vehicle.

The success of the mandatory ignition interlock program in reducing the risks posed by impaired drivers across the province, has made it a preferred option used by the SafeRoads Alberta program.

The program allows Alberta residents to continue to drive if they abide by the law …even if they have made mistakes in the past. In order to be eligible for the program no other suspensions can be active and you must have: 30 days or less remaining on your minimum 90-day driving suspension term, and must have completed the required education course mandated by SafeRoads Alberta.
